National Dessert Day

Apparently it's National Dessert Day? I haven't had the energy to make sweets lately, but August was a two cake month, and I never remembered to share either, so behold.

Cake number one for August was my eldest spawn's birthday cake. By their choice, it was a simple ๐Ÿ“strawberry
๐Ÿ“cake with buttercream in between the layers. You have to understand that I'm not an "Is it Cake?" baker. I'm a "Wilton School of Cake Decorating circa 1992" baker. Which is to say that it was basic. But in the best way.

Does this count as having all my ducks in a row?

Everyone got a laugh. The kids loved it. I called it my masterpiece. And let's face it, if my decorating skills have not improved after 20+ years of birthday cakes, the bar is low. ๐Ÿคฃ

Cake number two was for my birthday at the end of the month. I don't usually bother with a cake for myself, but after the chaos of the last few years I wanted a proper birthday celebration. So I rented an event space from a dance studio, invited some friends out, and we had pizza and cake and dressed up for cosplay karaoke.

Really, it was more like princess karaoke.

As for the cake - the flavor was great - French vanilla with glazed ๐Ÿ“strawberry๐Ÿ“ filling. The decorating, on the other hand, was... I don't know. I didn't have the energy to do anything complex, but the frosting was pink so I thought "I have some strawberry shortcake Hershey Kisses. I'll just use those."

Literally my face.

I hoped it would be cute, but let's just say it was an udder fiasco.๐Ÿ˜… I called it the nipple cake. Nobody else seemed to have issue with it, but I just couldn't unsee what I saw.

You see it, right?

So tell me, is it as bad as I thought, or am I overly sensitive?
